1] 12-year-old raped, knifed to death by neighbour
THANE: A 12-year-old girl was raped, beaten and knifed to death on
Friday night allegedly by her neighbour in Diva. The accused, Bharat
Singh Rathod (27), initially fled the spot, but surrendered before the
Mumbra police on Saturday night.
The victim, a Class VII student at a school in Dombivli, had left home
to attend tuition classes and was to return around 6pm. When she did
not return by 7.30pm, her worried parents, along with neighbours,
started searching for her in the locality.
Later in the night, they found the girl’s body stuffed inside a gunny
bag at the rear end of Dhanraj Residency. The victim stayed on the
second floor of Dhanraj Residency, while the accused stays on the

THANE: Bharat Singh Rathod, arrested for allegedly raping and killing
his 12-year-old neighbour in Diva, has shown little remorse so far,
said the police.
The investigators have learnt that the 27-year-old accused had a
strained relationship with his wife.
At the time of the crime, Rathod’s wife was not living with him and he
had been residing alone in his rented flat on the first-floor of the
Dhanraj Residency. Rathod’s wife has gone to their native place in
Burhanpur, MP. According to the police, Rathod’s divorce proceedings
Rathod has been remanded in police custody till March 10. Police
recovered the girl’s clothes and her schoolbag from Rathod’s flat
after they broke open his door on suspicion as she was last seen
talking to him.
3] Lab assistant gets 10-year rigorous imprisonment for raping schoolgirl
PUNE: The district and sessions court here on Wednesday sentenced a
47-year-old laboratory assistant of a school at Guruwar Peth to 10
years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 12-year-old girl
student in the school laboratory last year.
Sessions court judge Anant Badar also sentenced the accused, Kailash
Memjade, a resident of Wanowrie Bazaar, to six months’ RI for wrongful
confinement and to two years’ RI for criminal intimidation. He was
also fined Rs 6,500. The sentences will run concurrently.
The judge also passed severe strictures on the school’s headmistress,
Stella David, for not taking cognizance of the shocking incident when
the girl’s parents approached her.
