115 child rape cases in two months – Times of India
BHUBANESWAR: At least 115 child rape cases have been registered in the state in January and February this year, minister for women and child development UshaDevi told the assembly on Thursday. The highest number of 11 cases of minor rape were reported from Balasore. This was followed by eight cases each in Cuttack and Rourkela police districts and seven in Nabarangpur.
The minister said with growing incidents of child rape cases in Odisha, the number of such cases registered in last three years stood at 580 ( 2010), 638 ( 2011) and 853 (2012).
The minister said to check the increasing trend of rape cases, the government asked police to complete investigations of child rape cases as early as possible and submit chargesheets. She said cases were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Besides, the government has made arrangements for patrolling in crowded places,she added.
